Real Housewives of Atlanta nominated for NAACP Image Award

The blogs are a buzzing this week with news that Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” has been nominated for an NAACP Image award.   I agree with Bossip, someone should be fired.  I didn’t believe it a first.  I had to check the facts for myself on the NAACP website.  There it was:

Outstanding Reality Series

  • “American Idol 8” (FOX)
  • “America’s Next Top Model” (CW)
  • “Dancing With the Stars” (ABC)
  • “Extreme Makeover” (ABC)
  • “Real Housewives of Atlanta” (Bravo)

Someone please tell me this is a hoax.  Next they will be giving Kisha Cole’s momma an Image Award.  Hell, I know Mr. Brown is bound to get nominated in the “Step n’ Fetch it” category.  This tops their nomination of R. Kelly…

…well, maybe not.  Where am I?  Someone please tell me this is just a dream.

  1. Is this it? Is this the straw that broke the camel’s back? How can the NAACP Image Awards (and to a lesser extant the NAACP itself) have any kind of credibility after this?

WTF?!! That’s even worse than MJJ’s memorial being nominated. Ugh

  3. That is insane, but in response to Noface, I can’t remember the last time I thought of the Image Awards having any credibility at all.

Perhaps they just want people to tune in and know that the program (I guess all of the nominated programs) are popular? That’s the best I can come up with. Or at least, the best charitable explanation I can come up with.

First let me say, I haven’t watched the Image Awards since it gave an “Image” award to R. Kelly.

Part of the problem is the nominating process itself. Take a look at what it says on the NAACP website:
“How does the nominating process work?”

“We received over 1,200 entries for the NAACP Image Awards. Potential nominees are submitted to our submissions committee by the artist, manager, publicist, production company, record label, studio, network or publisher to be selected as a final nominee for the NAACP Image Awards. From those entries, a special committee of 300 industry professionals and NAACP leaders from across the country selected five nominees in each of the 53 categories. “

  6. Eljay: Thanks for posting that info. If the producers and people on the show can create a campaign to get an award or just lobby for entries instead of a panel of experts picking the nominations…then we get a terrible nomination like this. Hey, I guess they don’t want to be reputable.

Eljay, I missed that–It explains a lot. What a joke.

    Atl shouldnt be nominated.
    A shame it is.

just as House of Payne winning ebst whatever it won was horrible.

This is what happens when an institution out lives it’s useful purpose. The real question here is, why are you suprised? One only needs to look at past winners to predict the future. NAACP, B.E.T, Jeese Jackson, and Rev. Al Sharpton have outlived their usefulness.

Thanks for your wonderful responses. I might also add that I am from Atlanta–a fourth generation native of Atlanta. My family has live here since Reconstruction. All of what is filmed in this travesty of a show called “Real Housewives of Atlanta” is actually located outside of the city limits of Atlanta. Also these degenerate women are not natives of the city or even the state of Georgia.

I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that most of us in Atlanta do not like the idea that these miscreants who prostitute themselves for attention on national TV have no business claiming our city as their own. As the owner of my favorite Jamaican restaurant “Just Jerk” said, “This is not reality TV, it is ‘Slut TV.” Can I get a witness?!?!?!?!
