Duke Lacrosse Rape Scandal Accuser to Write Book

When I saw the headline something just told me that the media is going to drag her through the mud…for the second time. I hope Obiden doesn’t comment on this, but you know some dumb reporter is going to ask their opinions.  Sigh…Anyway. As you can imagine there are a lot of different takes on this possible book already. Here we go…

Since three former Duke Lacrosse players were declared innocent of rape and assault charges, the alleged victim in the highly publicized Duke Lacrosse case has remained out of public view until now. In a press release, Crystal Mangum’s manager has announced plans to release a tell-all memoir entitled “The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story.””

BET NEWS“”It is “the only definitive account of the life and struggles of the woman at the center of the Duke Lacrosse case, the alleged accuser,” said Clark, who is also Mangum’s manager, in a news release. “Were it not for the Duke Lacrosse Case, she likely would be described as a bright, young woman from Durham, North Carolina, who has had a difficult life.” He said that the alleged victim plans to donate $1 from each book she sells to help battered women.”

The Duke Lacrosse Rape Accuser Memoir That Nobody Asked For – “So, remember that Duke University lacrosse rape case? Remember how they were cleared of all charges and the only reason it really got any traction was because a politically ambitious district attorney forced the issue? Yes, that case. No, Duke lacrosse players didn’t forcibly tag team a stripper they hired. But the aforementioned stripper, who made the accusations on three men who were indicted then ultimately cleared, remember her? Well, she’s writing a book about it. In what will make Miley Cyrus’s upcoming memoir look like The Audacity Of Hope, get ready for…”

Fox News – “The press release for the memoir says that Crystal Gail Mangum has been “called an exotic dancer and a prostitute, and the public was led to believe she wanted to frame some ‘good college students’ from Duke and put them in jail. … “Published reports throughout 2006 and 2007 portrayed Crystal as a gold-digging hooker searching for a big payday or as an unstable, troubled young woman. The truth about Crystal’s life, her account of what happened on March 13, 2006, accusations and the motives of the people criticizing her were never seriously explored,” the release continues.”

Race and Sex: South Carolina Teacher Student Scandal

Again…I have to say it.  I don’t want to say it, but I have to.

What the hell is wrong with these White Women who continue to mess with these little boys!!!  Come on!!!  If this was a black man taking advantage of white children…he’s be put under the jail.  This is the second case in a year’s time.  In both cases the teachers got some real TIME instead of the standard white-privilege slap on the wrist that I’ve seen in other cases.

In Laurens County, S.C., where the tawdry topic of teacher-student sex is drawing far more attention than any of the townsfolk would like, there’s another issue being whispered out of earshot of the TV cameras – the issue of race.

In Laurens County , a northern South Carolina community of about 10,000 residents – 54 percent of whom are White and 44 percent of whom are Black – Tuesday’s jailing of 24-year-old Allenna Ward for six years marked the second imprisonment of a White female teacher for sex crimes against Black boys in less than a year.

Wendie Ann Schweikert, a former elementary school teacher, began serving a 10-year sentence in June for having sex with an 11-year-old Black boy.

Ward, the daughter of a preacher, admitted to having sex at the school where she taught, a park, a motel and a restaurant after school officials found a note she had written to one of the boys. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison for each of three counts of lewdness against the 14- and 15-year-old boys, but they were reduced to six years in prison, to run concurrently. – BET

Inmates should have access to condoms and HIV testing

With nearly half (48 percent) of all black men living with HIV/AIDS estimated to have acquired it by male-to-male sexual contact according to a CDC report, the spread of HIV appears to be as much about homosexuality as it is about trifling, dishonest African-American men engaging in promiscuous sexual encounters with unsuspecting women while not having the decency to practice safe sex.

Many researchers and social advocates are wondering if there is a correlation between the deplorable number of African-American men who are incarcerated and in prison and the spread of HIV in the African-American community. Unfortunately, despite various hypotheses, only 19 states test inmates for HIV upon entering prison and only three states test upon release. The Bureau of Prisons for federally incarcerated inmates tests only a random sampling of inmates on alternative years. For the sake of the current and future generations of African Americans, a national campaign should be instituted to require the testing of men entering prison for HIV, upon release and upon inmate request. HIV testing should be mandatory throughout all state and federal prisons. – © S. James Guitard

Wondering about a correlation…experts are wondering?  If the general public, who can get tested for free or at will if they have insurance, is not getting tested and spreading HIV, do you have to wonder how inmates who don’t know their status might unknowingly pass HIV to other inmates they have sex with?  Why not test persons coming out of the system, at the very least?  Why not give incarcerated people condoms?

If these men really had a voice, a voice that the general population was interested in hearing, this would be a non-issue.  We don’t care about criminals.  If you have life in prison and you’ll die behind bars, you’re an outcast in the eyes of most Americans.  Will they care if you die from Aids any more than they care if your cell mate shanks you in your sleep?  What does that say about America?  You can get cable, phone calls, visits, food, exercise, etc in prison, but might not get condoms or HIV testing.  OH, you can get raped too…let not forget that.  Then your HIV infection could be the result of a crime, forced on you.  *shaking my head*

NAACP Doesn’t Support Hate Crime March in W.Va.

The NAACP said Tuesday it does not support a hate crime awareness march that will raise money for a black woman who says she was tortured by six whites.

Local and national NAACP officials said they disapprove of Saturday’s march organizers, a group based in Washington, D.C., called Black Lawyers for Justice that wants hate crime charges brought against the defendants.

Six whites are charged with raping and torturing 20-year-old Megan Williams for days until her Sept. 8 rescue. All could get life prison sentences if convicted, but the prosecutor has not filed hate crime charges, saying they could be difficult to prove.

Williams, her family and black leaders such as the Rev. Al Sharpton plan to participate in the march, which has been endorsed by groups including the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the National Conference of Black Mayors.

The Rev. Audie Murphy, NAACP branch president for Logan and Boone counties, said his group will continue supporting Williams, “but not within this march.”

“The NAACP is not against hate crimes being charged; we’re just saying we respect the decision of the prosecutor to later on have the freedom to do so. We do believe that some of what the perpetrators (had) against Megan, it was hate crime, but we want them to be prosecuted under the laws.” Continue reading

Black Woman Tortured for days in West Virginia, Hate Crime

Good to see the media reporting on this instead of ignoring it like the Jena 6 and the Dunbar Village Case. My fellow African Americans…this is the America we live in…this hatred and evil that we’ve seen in the last couple of months…this hate and racism…this is part of America. We must work to create an America where all people live in peace and safety…regardless of race. CNN and The Smoking Gun have also reported on this story.

www.washingtonpost.com | BIG CREEK, W.Va. — For at least a week, authorities say, a young black woman was held captive in a mobile home, forced to eat animal waste, stabbed, choked and repeatedly sexually abused _ all while being peppered with a racial slur.

It wasn’t until deputies acting on an anonymous tip drove to a ramshackle trailer deep in West Virginia’s rural hills that she was found. Limping toward the door with her arms outstretched, she uttered, “Help me,” the Logan County sheriff’s office said.

Six people, all white, including a mother and son and a mother and daughter, have been arrested and could face federal hate crime charges in the suspected attack on 20-year-old Megan Williams, who remained hospitalized Tuesday with injuries that included four stab wounds in the leg, and black and blue eyes. Her right arm was in a cast.

“I’m better,” Williams told The Associated Press in a voice barely above a whisper.

“I don’t understand a human being doing another human being the way they did my daughter,” Carmen Williams said Tuesday from the Charleston Area Medical Center. “I didn’t know there were people like that out here.” The AP generally does not identify suspected victims of sexual assault, but Williams and her mother agreed to release her name. A prosecutor said police are investigating the possibility that the victim was lured to the house and attacked by a man she had met online, but Carmen Williams insisted that wasn’t the case. “This wasn’t from the Internet,” she said.

Authorities were still looking for two people they believe drove the woman to the house where she was abused, said Logan County Chief Deputy V.K. Dingess. Deputies also interviewed Williams on Tuesday morning. An FBI spokesman in Pittsburgh, Bill Crowley, confirmed that the agency is looking into possible civil rights violations.

The case is “something that would have come out of a horror movie,” Logan County Sheriff W.E. Hunter said.

The home is in a forlorn part of Logan County about 50 miles southwest of Charleston, where the scattered homes are marked by “No Trespassing” signs. An old shed linked to a mobile home by an extension cord is what authorities say became a hellish prison for Williams.

Deputies found her when they drove to the home on Saturday after receiving an anonymous tip from someone who witnessed the abuse, officials said.

The woman was forced to eat rat and dog feces and drink from a toilet, according to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court based on what the suspects told deputies. She also had been choked with a cord, it alleges. Deputies say the woman was also doused with hot water while being sexually assaulted.

One of those arrested, Karen Burton, is accused of cutting the woman’s ankle with a knife. She used the N-word in telling the woman she was victimized because she is black, according to the criminal complaint.

Carmen Williams said doctors told her daughter she may be well enough to leave the hospital within a few days, although a nurse said the young woman’s condition was listed as “under evaluation.”

“I just want my daughter to be well and recover,” Carmen Williams said. “I know the Lord can do anything.”

The six suspects were arrested Saturday and Sunday. Frankie Brewster, the 49-year-old woman who owns the home where the suspected attacks occurred, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and giving false information during a felony investigation. Her son, Bobby R. Brewster, 24, also of Big Creek, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and assault during the commission of a felony.

Frankie Brewster was released from prison in September 2000 after serving five years for voluntary manslaughter and wanton endangerment in the death of an 84-year-old woman, according to court records.Burton, 46, of Chapmanville, is charged with malicious wounding, battery and assault during the commission of a felony. Her daughter Alisha Burton, 23, of Chapmanville, and George A. Messer, 27, of Chapmanville, are charged with assault during the commission of a felony and battery. Danny J. Combs, 20, of Harts, is charged with sexual assault and malicious wounding.

All six remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bail each, and all have asked for court-appointed attorneys. (Tom Breen reported from Charleston, W.Va.)

Dunbar Village Gang Rape – Black on Black crime ignored by the media and black leaders

After learning of the Jena 6 I was feeling a lot of things…outrage, disappointment, amazement. I’ve been reading as much as possible about the case, most information is online…I haven’t seen any TV news coverage, there’s been some print. However, my feelings about that case now have been trumped by the disgust regarding the Dunbar Village Gang Rape in West Palm Beach, FL.  I know I’m late writing about this crime, but better late then never.   The Washington Post did a piece on Aug 17, so that was a candle in the dark (I’m in DC so I looked there first).  Other papers are just stepping up, local TV in Florida.   What About Our Daughters has taken the lead on exposing and holding the media accountable on – Click here for their coverage.

Here are the basics of the story from Black America Web:

“The incident occurred at a public housing project called Dunbar Village in West Palm Beach, Florida.“After dark on June 18, the police say, as many as 10 armed assailants repeatedly raped a Haitian immigrant in her apartment complex at Dunbar Village … They took cell phone pictures of their acts. They burned the woman’s skin and (her 12-year-old son’s) eyes with cleaning fluid, forced them to lie naked together in the bathtub, hit them with a broom and a gun and threatened to set them on fire.”

As despicable as that sounds, it wasn’t the worst of it. The worst of it was when these vermin, according to Times writer Amy Goodnough, “forc(ed) (the woman) to perform oral sex on her 12-year-old son.”

If you’re wondering why the traditional gaggle of black misleaders didn’t dash before the nearest television cameras to condemn what might well hold up as the worst black-on-black crime of the decade, don’t bother. You already know the answer.”

Here is some additional information:

The video below talks about the rape, and notes that 2 other women (a teen and a 42 year old woman) were also raped in the Dunbar Village Housing Project with in a month’s time. Please do what you can…the video lists contact numbers for West Palm Beach officials and leadership.
