Yet Another Republican finds digital racism funny: Frago in CA

The content of the emails that Republican Gary Frago was passing around are the most racist so far that have been noted by major media outlets.  The Republicans just need to learn that you don’t forward racist emails, and you don’t respond to or post racist comments on Facebook and Twitter.  It’s that simple.  Nothing is private anymore.  Note to the party: You don’t need anymore help looking insensitive.  You’re party’s participation in the Sotomayor hearings was quite enough, at least for this week.

Here is the scoop from Wonkette (Who’s liberal use of the n-word at one point gave me pause.  Just because you’re talking about someone else using the word doesn’t mean you should.  I’m talking about: “Niggers are just a naturally funny subject, to everyone.” Um…really?)

The latest batch of foul, blatant racism comes from “City Councilman Gary Frago,” in some place near Merced, California. And he’s not sorry, either! “I’m not the only one that does it,” Frago told the Merced Sun-Star. Yeah, we’ve noticed.

All in all, the Sun-Star obtained seven e-mails that Frago sent from October 2008 to February 2009 from an anonymous source.

Some compared Obama to O.J. Simpson while others suggested that “nigger rigs” should now be called “presidential solutions.”

Perhaps the most overboard e-mail was sent on Jan. 15. It read: “Breaking News Playboy just offered Sarah Palin $1 million to pose nude in the January issue. Michelle Obama got the same offer from National Geographic.”

The newspaper tracked down the person who sent the emails to Continue reading

Former SC official basically calls Michelle Obama’s ancestors to gorillas

He apologized but I don’t give a F***.  Sorry.  This is unacceptable.  Totally.

Today former state election director Rusty DePass issued an apology Wednesday for his comments last week linking an escaped gorilla with the ancestors of First Lady Michelle Obama.

The formal apology came during a noon press conference at the offices of the State NAACP.

“I am truly sorry for any offense I have caused,” DePass said, speaking to a small group gathered for the press conference.

DePass, commenting on the facebook.com social networking Web site Friday, created a stir when he said an escaped gorilla at Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia was probably one of Obama’s ancestors.

DePass responded to a facebook.com link to news the gorilla had briefly escaped his cage by writing: “I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors – probably harmless.”

DePass later admitted he was referring to the First Lady.  source

Um…NAACP, why did you host this fake apology? Why?

Obama is Ebony Magazine’s Person of the Year

Obama is Ebony Magazine's Person of the Year

Of course we are not surprised.

If an African-American becoming the President of the United States doesn’t stand out as THE landmark event in the history of a magazine founded for African-American readers in 1942 and now reaching 12 million readers, it’s difficult to imagine what does.

“We won because the American people mobilized for change,” Obama says in the interview that he gave to Ebony on Nov. 13, his first interview following election. “It really was people at a grassroots level who carried our campaign financially, who carried it organizationally, and we don’t want that to dissipate.”

The interview, along with the magazine’s naming of Obama as its first-ever Person of the Year, a look at how “Barack’s Chicago” helped shape the man and a look at “First Lady Style: Michelle Obama’s Eclectic Taste” all are featured in the January edition of Ebony, a designated collector’s edition, that goes on sale a week from today, Dec. 9.

WTF: Michelle as Angela Davis and Barack as Bin Laden

obama new yorker cover

Oh my, Oh my. Last week it was the “Rev” Jesse Jackson talking about cutting off Obama’s nuts. Now, the New Yorker’s July 21 cover art features Michelle looking like a Black Panther, with a huge gun and Angela Davis style Afro. Barack is outfited with an Al Qaeda-style outfit, match the portrait of Bin Laden on the wall next to them in what appears to be the oval office. They bump fists as the American flag burns in a fireplace.

“The intent of the cover is to satirize the vicious and racist attacks and rumors and misconceptions about the Obamas that have been floating around in the blogosphere and are reflected in public opinion polls,” Remnick says. “What we set out to do was to throw all these images together, which are all over the top and to shine a kind of harsh light on them, to satirize them. That’s part of what we do.”New Yorker editor in chief David Remnick for World News

And all I can say is WTF was the New Yorker thinking. I know the magazine business is not as good as it used to be. Maybe they needed sales and just said…f*** it. There is no such thing as bad publicity, right? Who gave this cover the green light? Did they not think the web would explode with condemnation? Did they not see the Vogue Magazine Lebron James cover?

Don’t they know that racism and stereotyping is something to be done in private, behind closed doors in America these days? This is the kind of blatant bigotry and propaganda that I haven’t seen in a while.

Sure, sure…I could see some satire somewhere in this mess…but I don’t want to. As much as I am the daughter of Black Revolutionaries and I appreciate turning stereotypes on their head…I’m not feeling this. I’m just not. The satire is NOT obvious here. Are they going to follow this up with a McCain cover with John as a ventriloquist’s dummy sitting of Pres. Bush’s lap??? Now that would be satire. I would get that joke. I agree with the Obama camp, it’s “tasteless and offensive“.

This is a case of bad journalism, bad business, and the exploitation of stereotypes and fear for the sake of selling magazines. This is not about “the story”. This is about being controversial=$$$

Other Coverage

The cover has already inspired the following online poll in a forum at the conservative online tabloid the WorldNetDaily: 59 percent of the small, unscientific sample of those taking the poll agree with the statement: “The image isn’t too far from the dangerous truth about the Obama family.”

“About one out of 10 Americans continue to believe that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is a Muslim, after all.” – ABC News (New Yorker Editor David Remnick Talks to ABC News About Cover )

Bill O’Reilly’s Lynching Party and Michelle Obama

video_wmv Download | Play video_mov Download | Play (Courtesy of CrooksandLiars.com)

Keith Olbermann brings on Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson to discuss the horrific history behind Bill O’Reilly’s casual and callous use of the phrase “lynching party” in reference to Michelle Obama’s quote about being really proud of this country and the implications one may draw from it.

You know what lynching was? Lynching was a horrific practice of murder, torture, dismemberment, burning alive, hanging, and the only purpose of lynching was to perpetuate white supremacy in the Jim Crow south. It wasn’t…the idea of course, wasn’t to lynch all black people, but by lynching a few black people…not a few, by lynching some black people to demonstrate to other African Americans that this could happen to you, that you have no power, that we have all the power, and that we can take anything we want from you, including your life. There’s nothing funny about lynching. There’s certainly nothing at all funny or remotely appropriate about the use of a lynching reference to talk about Michelle Obama. And the word “unless” followed by “we’ll track it down,” is way beyond the pale.

O’Reilly said on his radio show…
“I don’t want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there’s evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that’s how she really feels — that America is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever — then that’s legit. We’ll track it down.”

He decided to fact check before letting a caller say something bad about Mrs. Obama.  For that I had to say “WOW, O’Reilly is fact checking now??”.  I wish he would get his facts straight more often.  Opps, sorry!  What am I saying??  He’s all about HIS opinions.
