Have You Seen This Black Child?

From Ad Age – Campaign Makes Issue of Media Bias in Abduction Cases

It’s almost a punch line these days. Some attractive teenage white girl goes missing or dead and we’re guaranteed to hear about it for weeks or months or in perpetuity. It makes for a great SNL skit.

What would make for a better one — but in a funny-sad rather than a funny-ha-ha way — is Nancy Grace or Greta van Susteren worrying their fake blonde locks over the disappearance of a non-white child.

Of course, the reality is that never happens. And the reality is, while the talking TV heads’ story selection is even less diverse than the halls of a mainstream ad agency, there are people out there working to find missing Black and Hispanic kids.

Hadji Williams, author of Knock the Hustle, sent over some posters he created for a group trying to bring attention to missing minority children. They come in two flavors.

One set features a profile of a “composite” white kid “last seen on” CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, etc. (I think it might hurt the effort that the photo is of a real missing person).

The other set features missing minority kids — probably last seen at the spot they were abducted and maybe in a local newspaper or two. The cases are so similar to the mainstream cases that get all the media attention, one starts to wonder … Nah, let’s not finish that thought.

The “We Want Our Kids Back, Too” effort, said Williams, sprung out of the passion of sites such as BlackandMissing.blogspot.com and similar sites.

The effort lives online only for the moment, on the various blogs and through direct e-mail outreach. If funding and publicity start coming in, there’s a possibility they’ll branch out into print and TV. Williams said they’ll break Webisodes later in the year.

And, he adds, “No word from Greta Van Susteren or Nancy Grace. They’re both busy trying to crack the Drew Peterson case.”

Michael Jackson’s kids have a Black Nanny

Update 6/26/09: The King is Dead.  Michael Jackson aka “Your favorite artist’s favorite artist” died yesterday, 6/25/09, in Los Angeles, CA.  A Legend.  An Icon.  The KING of Pop.  We love you Michael.  Never can say goodbye…

Now, that being said…please post kind words and tributes to Michael in the comment box in the future.  Let’s end this discussion on his children and pray for them instead.

Update 4/24/09: I almost closed this post because there have been so many comments on it.  Damn, you guys have been posting since 2/13/08.  Why hasn’t one of you developed a blog around this?  I just might have to.  I’m sure the Google Ad revenue would be huge.  Maybe I’ll call it “Is Michael Black?”  Sigh, ok I’m going to leave the comments open for now…I guess.  Carry on.

Maybe I was supposed to know this, given the fact that Michael Jackson has been in the news a lot lately with the 25th Anniversary of Thriller…but I’ve been busy living life. I understand that he may face foreclosure on his Neverland Ranch for $23 million secured by Fortress Investments. Lot’s going on in Michael’s world too, huh? If it wasn’t for the Floacist’s Blog, I would never know of MJ’s former Black nanny (Floacist hit me with an update, below), Grace Rwaramba, a Rwandan native.

Allegedy, those 2 white children in the photo are supposed to be MJ’s. I don’t mean to be rude but I don’t think that Vitiligo has an effect on one’s sperm. Continue reading

Foster Parents Reluctant to Adopt Dark-Skinned Kids

Arabs have Dark-Skinned vs. Light-Skinned issues too, huh?  I’ll add to them to the list of Blacks and Indians.  Must be all the African slaves and concubines in their ancestory.

ArabNews.com –  If you are an abandoned child seeking foster parents, your chances of being adopted are much higher if your skin is lighter, according to Najla Rida, the head of the Makkah branch of the Um Al-Qura Charity Organization.

The problem is that most orphans are not fair skinned. Rida says about 85 percent of them have African features and are unwanted by Saudi adoptive families who perceive these children to be outsiders.

“Their looks indicate that they are not of Saudi origin,” she said. “They are the children of illegal residents of Makkah.”

Rida says adoptive families make it clear that they aren’t interested in these children and specifically ask for light-skinned tots. She warn that this phenomenon of leaving these children — widely perceived to have been dumped by illegal aliens on the Saudi street or the product of extramarital affairs — will eventually exacerbate social problems

“These children grow up to hate Saudi society,” she said. “It will take us a long time to rehabilitate them. These children are the result of immoral relationships, poverty and lack of religious values.” Continue reading

Text Addicts could learn a lesson from Detroit’s Mayor

BET reported last week that, Married Detroit Mayor,” Kwame Kilpatrick, is facing the political storm of his life. The flamboyant, controversial CEO of the Motor City could be on the outs after lying to a grand jury about his affair with his chief of staff, Christine Beatty.  Like many of you he and his lady friend have a thing for texting each other and it seems she’s having a hard time letting the relationship go.

Kilpatrick could be forced to resign, lose his law license and be brought up on perjury charges. The Detroit Free Press  gotten about 14,000 of the hot and juicy text messages sent by Kilpatrick and Beatty.  Here’s a sample of what the paper posted…

Sept. 24, 2002, 6:56 p.m. – Beatty: This is one of those little things I had to tell you. Last night when I was laying on your shoulder in the car and you held my face and sang whatever song it was, that felt so good. It was just one of those little moments when you just made me fall some more.

Oct. 7, 2002, 11:20 p.m. – Beatty: OK, I’m feeling like I want another night like the most recent Saturday at the Residence Inn! You made me feel so damn good that night. As you can see I can’t let it go! . . .

Kilpatrick: I feel that we can do that in WV (West Virginia) + just relax together. I need you soooo bad. I want to wake up in the morning and you are there. Make it happen. Love ya.

Oct. 16, 2002, 11:48 p.m. – Kilpatrick: I’ve been dreaming all day about having you all to myself for 3 days . . . relaxing, laughing, talking, sleeping and making love.

April 8, 2003, 8:55 p.m. – Beatty: And, did you miss me, sexually?

Kilpatrick: Hell yeah! You couldn’t tell. I want some more. Don’t sleep!
