Racism Reminder – Man finds racial slur on Journey’s shoe receipt

Some how I missed this story in October, so I’m posting it now (thanks to Elizabeth for bringing it to my attention).  I’m from this part of the country so, I’m not surprised.

On Oct 17, 2008, a young man went to “Journey’s” show store in Kansas City, MO (some accounts of this story say it happened in Kansas City KS…Oak Park Mall). He bought a pair of shoes and then saw an identical pair at a different store for less.? As such, he bought the identical shoes from the cheaper store and took back the original more pricey pair to Journey’s. Later on that night, as he was reviewing the receipt, he noticed that the reason for the return was “Dumb N*gger”. When he took the receipt back to the store, they didn’t even apologize but did admit that the “reason” was in the system. Click the video below to see local news coverage.

This store is a retail chain for whom you may be a regular customer.  There is power in the almighty dollar. Just something to consider. Please pass it along…

I would prefer that they just call Obama the N-word and get it over with

I’m tired of the accusations that Barack Obama is not a citizen of the United States that are being passed around by email.  Obama is an American Citizen. Duh!?!?!  What major political party is going to take a chance like that on a non-citizen?  Both Obama’s and McCain’s citizenship has been called into question…and they are both citizens.

McCain qualifies, too, although the circumstances of his birth — on a U.S. naval base in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936 — were unusual enough to merit a review. – AP

Oh, but people have gone as far as to sue in court wanting Obama to produce “proof” and the birth certificate that has been presented…they are calling it fake.  If he was white would this be happening?  When has this ever happened in the last 20 years, 30 years with regard to a presidential candidate?  Um…as a citizen there are a lot of things that I would love to just be able to sue and have President Bush give me “proof” of.  It that going to happen.  NO.  You can’t just sue elected officials for their personal records.  OH…I guess you can if the elected official is black.

Candidates meet “natural born” tests despite rumors – AP Wire – I have seen a number of right wing blogs noting just the opposite.  I have even see allegations that are said to have been made by Barack’s grandmother in Kenya regarding Obama being birthed in Kenya.  OK, you know it’s serious when they put your grandmother’s name in it.

All of this drama has one central cause.  Some people in America are so racist that they will come up with ANYTHING they can think of to help to ensure that a black man will never be President.

Don’t call him a terrorist. Dont’ imply that he is a muslim or of arab decent (if I was a muslim I would be having post-9/11 flashbacks right now).  Obama is a Christian.  How can you bring up his Christian pastor over and over again and then say he’s a Muslim.  Contradiction!!!  It’s like “muslim” is a dirty word or a horrible thing to be for some people during this election cycle.  I guess the Right doesn’t care about American Muslims and Arab Americans that vote.

Just go ahead and pull out the “big gun” (so to speak).  The N-word. Don’t beat around the bush.  Just go there.  That’s what many of you are doing behind closed doors anyway.  You know who you are!  You would never, ever vote for a black man for president of the United States.  You know what you really feel and what you would really say if you weren’t trying to be politically correct. I can at least accept that people who are openly racist have been doing so with abandon.  They don’t hide behind masks (hoods maybe) of faux-righteousness.  See, like most black people, I want to know where you stand if you’re racist.  It just clears the air and makes things simple and plain.  Hate is hate…you can’t whitewash it with politics.

All I’m saying is forget citizenship, Ayers, Rev. Wright…etc.  Just call him a Nigger like you really want to.  Let’s all be open and honest with it.

Whoopi says the N-word on the view, Hasselbeck cries

Jesse just had to say the n-word, didn’t he, dag. Anyway…In many ways, they are both right. It’s funny to me how black and white America sometimes assume they know the other side so very well.

Whoopi said…”No, no, I, I want you to. But what I need you to understand is the frustration that goes along when you say we live in the same world. It isn’t balanced. And we would like it to be. But you have to understand, you have to listen to the fact that we’re telling you, there are issues, there are huge problems that still affect us. And you’ve got to know this if you want to know us.”

Around that time Elisabeth started to cry and asked “how are we supposed to then move forward if we keep using terms that bring back that pain?” Um Liz…bring back the pain??? The pain is here all the time. From hair care products, to shows on NBC with no black charaters written as if we don’t exist except as background characters (yes…I know they’ve gotten a bit better), to “No Child Left Behind” programs in urban areas graduating black children without an education. It’s called institutional racism. In my opinion, as a white women, you can’t fully and totally possibly understand a black woman’s point of view on the subject, and no one really expects you to. Sigh…Click here for the whole transcript. In the end, Elizabeth missed the last point Whoopi was making that she needed to acknowledge what Whoopi was saying as her true and honest feelings instead of trying to get her to understand how wrong she feels the n-word is. She just kept talking…you have to listen to learn.

The problem in my eyes…the converstation is not one that can be entered in lightly. It has to be framed in understanding and mutual respect for points of view that will vastly differ. That is difficult…especially on network TV.

Note: Barbara Walters used the opportunity to promote Obama’s candidacy opining “Barack Obama and others…are trying to move forward.” Come on Barb…that’s all you have to say?!?! LOL

Friday Question: Will the N-word ever go away?

Hello Readers!!! We’ve seen some healthy debate around the posting on NAS’s new song “Be a Nigger too”. The N-word tends to have that effect when opinionated people are around, and I love the dialog. So, this week’s question is “Will the N-word ever go away?”. [The question is late…my bad] I know quite a few African Americans who absolutely hate the word and think it should never ever be used regardless of the circumstances. I know quite a few African Americans who think the word has been somewhat “reclaimed” by the community and is not always used in it’s historical sense. Many embrace it, and many abhor it.

The question is, whether embraced or banned in some fashion, will it ever disappear from use. Do you think it will become illegal, passe, or just archaic?

“Wouldn’t you like to be a Nigger too?”

“I’m a nigger, he’s a nigger, she’s a nigger, we some niggers,
wouldn’t you like to be a nigger too?
They like to strangle niggers, blaming niggers, shooting niggers, hanging niggers,
still you wanna be a nigger too?”

NAS had my attention before, when he was going to name his new CD “Nigger”. That has been scrapped and the CD will be untitled from what I hear, but I’m loving his new CD cover. What I’m REALLY REALLY REALLY loving today is his new song “Be a Nigger too” and the video for it. You can check it out below. I’m so excited about this song. The song in the video is longer than the CD version, but I think they should change that. I know some of you won’t be able to get past the n-word. That’s ok. I know it’s painful. However, as a child of black revolutionaries…I love this s**t. I think it’s conscious and I haven’t heard much consciousness in hip hop music lately. In the video he says,

“They say we N-I Double G E-R, We Are, Much More, But still we choose to ignore the obvious/ We are the Slave And the Master. What you lookin for? You the question and the answer.”

Yes we really are.

Racism goes beyond lynching [racial slur here]

An article from South African writer Fikile-Ntsikelelo Moya aka the F-Word aka one of my new heroes.

From Mail and GuardianRacism goes beyond lynching niggers
One Sunday afternoon the news editor at my previous paper sent me to cover a dog show at Gilloolies Farm, east of Johannesburg. When I got there the woman behind the ticket counter ignored me and routinely focused on people who came after me.

When she did pay attention to me she asked me: “What are you here to deliver?” In her mind the idea of a black guy enjoying the sight of dogs jumping through hoops was a bridge too far.

The woman and the people she paid attention to were white. I was (and still am) black. I called her action racist and people who commit racist actions, racists.

I might have been wrong. Perhaps the lady at the dog show is a nice woman who has never said an unkind word about people of other hues.

But that is where part of the problem lies.

Somehow we have developed the idea that unless you lynch niggers in a plantation or bang the heads of uppity black detainees against the prison walls until they die you are not really a racist.

Hold on, not even beating up darkies qualifies as racism. As one Pumas rugby team supporter, JR Nagel, told The Times when asked his opinion about the team fielding Gert van Schalkwyk (not to be confused with the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder of the same name) who is on appeal after he and his friends were convicted of beating a black man to death. “We all, even myself … my chommies [friends] and I have beaten up a couple of kaffirs. You are young, that’s what you do. In those days your dad told you that’s kwaai [cool].

“The only reason this is an issue is because it’s a kaffir who died and it was a white laaitie [boy] who hit him,” Nagel said.

Granted, the last statement reflects the unique idiocy of the speaker rather than a general trend of thought. Still, the unfortunate reality is that there is simply too little respect by our white compatriots for black people’s sensitivities to colonialism and racism. Or they are just too shy to show it. Boycott Hanes Underwear: Racist, Homophobic Ads in India

These Hanes underwear ads are racist and homophobic! I feel like Boycotting Hanes, but I don’t buy Hanes! LOL These ads were distributed under the tag line “Hanes. Because the world gives you enough labels”. They were designed by the Bombay branch of advertising giant McCann Erickson to promote their tagless line.  Notice that the words “HIV Positive” appear on the “nigger” ad.  So “black people have HIV” is now on the list of stereotypes???  Really?  Is this what people in India (the target market for these ads) think of black people?  How many “niggers” are there in India?  Why even bring us into it???  Did they plan to introduce these ads to the UK…USA in the future?  Oh and for all of you who think I missed the point, don’t think I don’t get what they were trying to say with these ads…I get it.  I really do and I think it’s horrible.

nigger hanes ad
usage of drugs, guns, prisons, blue-collar jobs, and angry words

faggot hanes ad
same-sex relations, s&m, sex toys, alcohol and vanity (cosmetics).

paki hanes ad
Paki is a racist name for a person of Pakistani origin, you see references to tanks, bullets, bombs and pigs.
