Noose Found on UC San Diego Campus as Racial Tentions Continue

You know it’s a racial incident when a noose is found.  A noose.  That lasting symbol of white supremacy.   When someone puts a noose up…”them’s fighting words”.

According to Huffington Post, last night, a noose was found hanging on a light in the campus library, according to the UC Regents (Live)blog. A female student admitted to placing the noose there today. This incident comes after the “Compton Cookout” Black History Month drama that we’ve been following here on Hello, Negro.  Photo of the noose comes from http://ucregentlive.wordpress.com

“This is truly a dark day in the history of this university,” Chancellor Marye Anne Fox told students gathered along Library Walk. “It’s abhorrent and untenable.”

I say, America, hate is on your doorstep.  You need to let it in and have a conversation about what is and is  not to be tolerated in YOUR house.  To the students at UC San Diego, I suggest that you band together.  Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Middle Eastern…an injustice to one is an injustice to all and the eyes of the nation are upon you.  Sometimes the young have to be the example of and change and evolution of thought for the old, for the establishment.

Put a Noose on the Cover of Your Magazine and What Do You Expect?

noose golfweek

If people were offended by what Tilghman said about Tiger being lynched, did you really think they wouldn’t have some issues with this image.  Come on?!?!

The editor of Golfweek magazine said he was overwhelmed by negative reaction to the photo of a noose on the cover of this week’s issue, illustrating a story about the suspension of a Golf Channel anchor for using the word “lynch” in an on-air discussion about how to beat Tiger Woods.

“We knew that image would grab attention, but I didn’t anticipate the enormity of it,” Dave Seanor, vice president and editor of the weekly magazine, said from the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla.

“There’s been a huge, negative reaction,” he said. “I’ve gotten so many e-mails. It’s a little overwhelming.”

Among the critics was PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem, who said he found the imagery to be “outrageous and irresponsible.” AP Golf Writer/Yahoo

Seriously, that is so tabloid.  I think they just saw an opportunity to use the controversy to sell magazines.  That’s a mess.

Black Man Awakes to Co-Workers Putting a Noose Around His Neck

Of course when the victim told bosses at Noble Drilling they fired him for “sleeping on the job.” OH Lord! This gentleman was working on a rig off the coast of Louisiana, and takes a nap. He wakes up with a noose around his neck and three white workers standing over him. They say it was a “prank.” Very funny, huh? It was during his break. God forbid workers take a nap during one of those. Now he’s suing them.

WWLTV.com – Click here for the video For three years, Robert Minter worked offshore, sending money back to his family in Virginia. But his good-paying job ended in 2003 after he said three of his white co-workers put a noose around his neck while he fell asleep during a break.

“It scared the hell out of me,” Minter recalled.

Working miles off the Louisiana coast, Minter said he awoke and thought he was about to be hung.

“One of the gentlemen had placed the noose around my neck. It went up over a pipe, about 14 feet high in the air. My other crew member was standing up on an I-beam with the other end in his hand, yanking on it.”

Minter said his co-workers called it a prank. Continue reading

Noose: Why bring Tupac into this mess?

An African-American man has been charged with the noose vandalism of a Tupac statue at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts.  On October 20th, fliers bearing rants about various rappers, Hurricane Katrina and 9/11 were plastered to the Tupac statue and a noose was left hanging around its neck.

What is that about?  Why would you do something like that?

They are charging the Deklab brother with a hate crime, and I’m cool with that.  He suffers from self hate and hate toward his culture.  He also suffers from stupidity.

Hate Crime Halloween: Picture of Hanging Man on Pumpkin

pumpkin racist

In my home state of Kansas, LeRon Berry’s anger has turned into worry for his family after finding a pumpkin covered with racial slurs, a drawing of hanged person, a death threat and white-power sayings slammed into his 1984 Delta 88.

Berry said he believes his family was targeted because his wife, Misty Hadenstien, is white and he is black. The couple have a 17-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter.

“I just don’t understand, from all these years, this color thing and how it’s still so alive,” said Berry, who moved his family to Wichita from the Kansas City area about a year ago. “I just would hope that everybody wakes up and people see that, even in nice communities like this, bad things can happen.”

As of September, police have investigated eight hate crimes: six anti-black, one anti-Hispanic and one anti-white.

Black mannequin with noose around neck found in CA

Dayum!!  Am I going to have to start a new feature…NooseWatch 2007?  WTF?

SacBee.com is reporting that a black mannequin was found with a noose around its neck in a county landfill building, and has triggered a joint hate crime investigation between the FBI and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.   The mannequin was found in a machine shop at the county’s Kiefer Boulevard landfill. The out-of-the-way building, where tractors that plow under garbage are repaired, is accessible only to employees, said site supervisor Chris Perini.  The county has released few details about the incident. Union officials and the head of the local NAACP said Friday they believed three employees and a supervisor, all of whom are white, work in the machine shop.

So many nooses, so little time

A noose is found in the Hempstead Police Department locker room.

SUNDAY, OCT. 7 In Richmond Hill, a woman is arrested after police say she hung a noose from a tree in her backyard

TUESDAY, OCT. 9 A noose is found hanging from the office door of a Columbia University professor.

THURSDAY, OCT. 11 A noose is found dangling outside a post office near Ground Zero in Manhattan.

Newsday (click here for article) – “Word that two nooses had been found in a Hempstead Town garage came down hard in the mainly minority community of Roosevelt yesterday.

Town Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby said it reminded her of a distant relative lynched in Georgia.

Val Tripp, 64, said it brought back the fear she lived with growing up in Evergreen, Ala.

And Darren Bryant, the first to report the nooses dangling from the back of a yellow forklift – one with a tarred stuffed animal hanging from the end – said it didn’t register as a mere prank.

The Roosevelt incident comes after the Sept. 28 discovery of a noose in the basement locker room of the Village of Hempstead Police Department. Residents were stunned when it was reported that the noose was directed at Deputy Chief Willie Dixon, who is black. The U.S. Department of Justice and Nassau County are investigating.

The discovery marks the fifth incident in less than a month that a noose has been displayed in public in the area.

A noose was found hanging on the office door of a black professor at Columbia University Oct. 9, and another was found outside a post office near Ground Zero later last week.

And on Oct. 7, a white Richmond Hill teen was charged with aggravated harassment for allegedly taunting a black neighbor with a noose.

In a statement, acting U.S. Attorney General Peter Keisler called the acts shameful and said the Department of Justice and the FBI, in cooperation with state and local authorities, are investigating.

The seeming prevalence of nooses in the wake of those found in Jena, La., last year and the protests that followed have prompted some to speculate that the more recent discoveries are “copycat” incidents.

Even so, the racially charged image remains disturbing.”
