Bishop Weeks Looking for Wife # 3

DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — The ex-husband of national televangelist Juanita Bynum, who divorced after a parking lot fight between the two landed him in jail, plans to take his search for a new wife to the Internet with videos featuring dating tips and what he’s looking for in a mate.

Thomas W. Weeks III, a minister who runs an Atlanta-area church and is known to his followers as Bishop Weeks, said the 10-episode series will be available starting Tuesday on his Web site.

Excerpts available Friday included Weeks, 41, discussing with aides what he should look for in his third wife.

The group concludes the woman should be at least 25 years old but “with special exemptions for 21 and up if they are classy,” Weeks said. She also must want to have children with him.

“This woman has to be very discerning, and very intimate, and very social and very sensual,” Weeks says, laughing. “And on the ministry side she has to be very diverse. She can’t be ugly.”

Bynum, 49, filed for divorce after the couple had an August, 2007, fight in an Atlanta hotel parking lot that landed Weeks in jail on charges that he pushed, choked and beat Bynum.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting her, is serving three years’ probation and has completed court ordered community service and anger management counseling.

In a video on the Web site of his Duluth-based church, Global Destiny International Ministries, Weeks said thousands of people have been writing him to ask about his plans as a newly single man.

He said he wants to give people a Christian perspective on dating.

“Who is going to be the next Mrs. Weeks? Well, God knows,” Weeks said. In the video, he asks viewers to e-mail him dating advice.

Messages left for Weeks at the church were not returned Friday morning. Bynum’s Los Angeles-based publicist also did not return calls.

If Weeks does find love, his attorney Randy Kessler told The Associated Press Friday, “I’d probably do the prenup for free.”

Who needs match.com or eharmony when you can just use your ministry website to hook yourself up? Lol!!! He discusses what he’s looking for and is even taking suggestions on his website. Comments please.

WTF: Michelle as Angela Davis and Barack as Bin Laden

obama new yorker cover

Oh my, Oh my. Last week it was the “Rev” Jesse Jackson talking about cutting off Obama’s nuts. Now, the New Yorker’s July 21 cover art features Michelle looking like a Black Panther, with a huge gun and Angela Davis style Afro. Barack is outfited with an Al Qaeda-style outfit, match the portrait of Bin Laden on the wall next to them in what appears to be the oval office. They bump fists as the American flag burns in a fireplace.

“The intent of the cover is to satirize the vicious and racist attacks and rumors and misconceptions about the Obamas that have been floating around in the blogosphere and are reflected in public opinion polls,” Remnick says. “What we set out to do was to throw all these images together, which are all over the top and to shine a kind of harsh light on them, to satirize them. That’s part of what we do.”New Yorker editor in chief David Remnick for World News

And all I can say is WTF was the New Yorker thinking. I know the magazine business is not as good as it used to be. Maybe they needed sales and just said…f*** it. There is no such thing as bad publicity, right? Who gave this cover the green light? Did they not think the web would explode with condemnation? Did they not see the Vogue Magazine Lebron James cover?

Don’t they know that racism and stereotyping is something to be done in private, behind closed doors in America these days? This is the kind of blatant bigotry and propaganda that I haven’t seen in a while.

Sure, sure…I could see some satire somewhere in this mess…but I don’t want to. As much as I am the daughter of Black Revolutionaries and I appreciate turning stereotypes on their head…I’m not feeling this. I’m just not. The satire is NOT obvious here. Are they going to follow this up with a McCain cover with John as a ventriloquist’s dummy sitting of Pres. Bush’s lap??? Now that would be satire. I would get that joke. I agree with the Obama camp, it’s “tasteless and offensive“.

This is a case of bad journalism, bad business, and the exploitation of stereotypes and fear for the sake of selling magazines. This is not about “the story”. This is about being controversial=$$$

Other Coverage

The cover has already inspired the following online poll in a forum at the conservative online tabloid the WorldNetDaily: 59 percent of the small, unscientific sample of those taking the poll agree with the statement: “The image isn’t too far from the dangerous truth about the Obama family.”

“About one out of 10 Americans continue to believe that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is a Muslim, after all.” – ABC News (New Yorker Editor David Remnick Talks to ABC News About Cover )

Jay-Z and Beyonce Marriage Rumors are the talk of the Black Blogosphere

Here’s what I heard…

There was a swirl of activity Friday at the rap mogul’s Tribeca apartment. Delivery trucks funneled in and out of the building, dropping off silver candelabras and white flowers. A white tent was set up on the roof, and stars including Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, were spotted.

A swarm of media camped outside the building was in a state of frenzy, snapping and shouting at any sport-utility vehicle that drove down the cobblestone street. They caught Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, a friend of Knowles, arriving. TMZ even streamed the action live on their Web site – until their battery ran out.

Gossip sites showed photos of orchids being delivered to the building and a tent set up on what was said to be the balcony of Carter’s home.

E! News quoted the owner of Amy’s Orchids in Thailand as saying her company shipped orchids to New York for Knowles’ and Carter’s wedding Friday. A designer in the city used 60,000 orchids to create “eight-foot garlands that hung down from the ceiling to make the location look like an orchid palace.”

The Web sites of People and Us Weekly reported the couple married and threw a lavish but small party at the apartment Friday, citing unnamed sources who are friends with the pair. A source told People.com that singer Beyonce Knowles, 26, and rapper Jay-Z, 38, tied the knot early Friday evening, and then celebrated with a party at the rapper’s home.

The Web sites reported their families attended the party. The Web site AllHipHop.com wrote that “an extremely close source” said the couple were indeed husband and wife. As of Saturday evening there was still no official confirmation that the couple were married.

Rumors circulated all week about the event after a report that the couple had taken out a marriage license in Scarsdale, N.Y. Representatives for Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z declined to comment on reports ahead of the event. Jay-Z’s publicist had no comment Saturday. Some skeptics said that the event might have simply been a celebration of the $150 million deal Carter made with Live Nation earlier this week.

Usher: First he fires Mom, now Scientology?

Usher, Usher, Usher…say it ain’t so. I’m not going to say it’s true, but Star Magazine* is reporting the internet is buzzing with rumors that Usher is converting from Christianity to Scientology. Usher, who is expecting a boy with new wife Tameka (who supposedly a scientologist as well) any day now, co-chaired a $1,500-a-plate fund raiser for both his New Look Foundation and Scientology’s controversial New York City Rescue Workers Detoxification Project in Las Vegas on November 3. Tom Cruise is on the board of Usher’s New Look Foundation…could that be a factor as well? Oh Lord, say it ain’t so. First you fire your Momma…now this!!!! Well, if he’s already let them get the dirt on him and begin sucking out his funds for the church…that’s a shame. He could have just went online and learned about Scientology…Wikipedia is your friend Negro, Wikipedia is your friend!

Divorce will cost Michael Jordan $168 million

Juanita and Michael JordanWith his amazing athletic ability and a knack for scoring in the clutch, Michael Jordan redefined the game of basketball. Now Jordan, and his wife of 17 years, Juanita, have refinded divorce settlements.

The Times of London reported Jordan will pay his former wife more than $168 million. The final severance package for Juanita Jordan includes the couple’s seven-acre estate in Chicago and custody of their three children. A year after their marriage in Las Vegas in 1989, he signed a prenuptial agreement that entitled her to half his fortune, but she has claimed only a third.

The Times reported Jordan earned over $350 million over the course of their marriage. He also pioneered lucrative sponsorships deals with McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and Nike, which created the bestselling range of Air Jordan shoes. The settlement eclipses the most expensive celebrity divorce on public record, in which Neil Diamond paid his ex-wife Marcia Murphey about $150 million.

Michelle Obama: “Black Americans will wake up and get it”

“Sen. Hillary Clinton’s lead among African Americans voters, who consistently favor the former first lady to Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) in presidential primary polling, is just a temporary phenomenon, according to Obama’s wife, Michelle.

“First of all, I think that that’s not going to hold,” Mrs. Obama said of Clinton’s current numbers in an interview with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski. “I’m completely confident.”

Acknowledging a certain reluctance in the African American community to back her husband for president, she said that support would come — but it would take time.

“Black Americans will wake up and get it,” Obama said. “But what we’re dealing with in the black community is just the natural fear of possibility. When I look at my life, the stuff that we’re seeing in these polls is played out my whole life: always been told by somebody that I’m not ready, you know, I can’t do something, my scores weren’t high enough.”

Obama pointed to a specific skepticism about her husband’s chances to win the presidency among blacks, who she says have been repeatedly told by society that there are limitations on what an African American can achieve.”
